Brice Civil Constructors takes on large-scale heavy civil construction projects that communities depend on. From earthen dams and bridges to airfields and water systems, you'll be part of a team that streamlines complex projects through self-performed construction and local hiring. What Can You Expect?
- Work onsite in Alaska supporting the drilling team on a seasonal mineral exploration project.
- Assist in mobilizing and setting up drilling sites efficiently and safely.
- Transport necessary supplies and equipment to and from the drill site.
- Prepare and maintain safety equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.
- Mix and prepare drilling fluids as required for operations.
- Support the Driller throughout the drilling process, working shifts of 12-14 hours per day, including in remote locations and challenging weather conditions.
- Avoid working on weekends and holidays.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with the drilling crew and other site personnel to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintain and ensure the longevity of all site equipment and tools, ensuring optimal performance.
- Organize core sample bags in sequential order according to specified footage.
- Provide training and mentorship to new Driller Assistants as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and safety protocols while working on-site.
- Perform physically demanding work for extended hours in various conditions to complete drilling projects.
- Follow the Driller’s instructions while taking initiative to remain productive and proactive on the job site.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, maintaining a respectful and supportive attitude.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Basic understanding of drilling techniques, procedures, and equipment used in the drilling process.
- Basic knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in the construction field preferred.
- Knowledge of workplace safety standards, practices, and regulations related to drilling and construction sites.
- Ability to assist with troubleshooting, repairing, or replacing malfunctioning equipment and machinery.
- Knowledge of the process for collecting, labeling, and storing core samples.
- Ability to handle and carry heavy wrenches, tools, and supplies.
- Ability to teach and guide new team members in drilling operations, safety protocols, and equipment handling.
- Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s), high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule.
- Ability to work productively under pressure.
- Ability to take initiative, work autonomously when required, and follow through with tasks without direct supervision.
- Ability to identify and address issues with equipment, drilling progress, or site conditions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, and specifications.
- Must be available for the full duration of the seasonal project, which may last several months.
- Ability to travel to remote places for work-related purposes (up to 100% of the time) and remain on the project site for 14 to 30 days at a time.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with other crew members and supervisors.
- Ability to live and work with co-workers in close quarters and keep good morale.
- Ability to participate in group meetings.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 5000-23 Surface Mining Certification dated within the past 5 years required.
- Ability to pass a drug, and background screening and physical.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six (6) months previous experience as a Driller Assistant preferred.
- Prior experience in Alaska’s rural construction industry is preferred.
