Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize drilling and blasting operations for open pit operations.
- Plan and execute efficient and safe blast designs, monitor drilling activities, and compile drill and blast costs.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure blasting operations meet production targets, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Develop and optimize blast designs that maximize rock fragmentation, minimize environmental impact, and ensure the safety of all personnel.
- Select appropriate drill pattern sizes, explosive types, and initiation sequences.
- Ensure that drill patterns are executed as planned and that drilling activities align with the blast design specifications.
- Understand the process of procurement, storage, and handling of explosives in compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and with proper documentation.
- Ensure that all drilling and blasting activities comply with safety regulations, industry best practices, and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
- Maintain and monitor the environmental impact of blasting operations, including vibration, noise, and fly rock, and implement measures to mitigate these effects.

- Collect and analyze data from drilling and blasting activities to monitor performance, optimize processes, and report on key metrics.
- Provide monthly cost and usage reports to stakeholders.
- Support cross-functional teams to achieve production targets.
- Identify opportunities for improving drilling and blasting processes, reducing costs, and enhancing safety and efficiency.
- Aid in the execution of projects as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field, or 5+ years blasting experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Ability to build and maintain a strong communications network with planning peers, managers, projects, and operations.
- Ability to adapt to changing mine conditions.
- Use of mine design and scheduling packages preferred.
Qualifications
- Ability to work in a high-altitude environment (above 8,000 feet).
- Ability to perform fieldwork, including walking on uneven terrain and climbing stairs.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of mining engineering principles and practices.
- Experience with mine design and scheduling software.
- Proficiency in explosives handling and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay
$95,000 to $105,000
