Drill and Blast Supervisor

About the role

The Drill and Blast Supervisor reports directly to the Drill and Blast Superintendent and is responsible for coordinating and supervising drilling, loading, and blasting activities to ensure safety, compliance with design specifications, and operational readiness.

Responsibilities

• Provide site-wide coordination for the drilling program and supervision of drillers and blast crews to enhance project efficiency and pattern adherence.
• Oversee the execution of drill patterns, ensuring all holes are drilled to the correct depth, angle, and location as specified by design.
• Lead the loading and tie-in process of explosives to optimize fragmentation and wall stability while minimizing vibration and overpressure.
• Ensure mine-site assets, particularly drill rigs and blasting equipment, are maintained and ready for scheduled operations.
• Support the creation of detailed blast designs.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in drilling and blasting activities in an open pit environment.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and grow a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
• Deep familiarity with MSHA regulations (preferred).
• Ability to obtain Employee Possessor status.
• Strong grasp of drill patterns, initiation systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of drill pattern design and drilling sequence.
• Knowledge of electronic and non-electronic initiation systems.
• Knowledge of clearing and blocking procedures.
• Proficiency in loading practices for ANFO and Emulsion products.

Qualifications

• Education: Degree or Diploma from a Community College or University in Engineering, Technical, or Trades discipline.
