Dredging Equipment Operator.

Duties

• Enters information into computer program to determine cut length, alignment and new setups.
• Constantly monitors the computer screen and gauges and controls associated with the operation of the dredge pump and winches.
• Troubleshoots system and makes necessary adjustments or corrections to bring system back on line.
• Makes determinations regarding when the suction head should be cleaned based on readings on vacuum gages.

Requirements

• Conditions of employment include a pre-employment Physical Examination and annual examinations thereafter.
• The position meets the criteria for compliance with Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
• The position is subject to pre-employment screening Drug Testing and random testing thereafter.
• Irregular work hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience handling ropes and wire rope, operating barge winches, boat winches and ratchets to fleet river barges, checking barge soundings, and using pumps (trash and submersible).
• Experience as a Baffle Plate Operator, using water pressure from the pipeline discharge to steer the pipeline and maintain the discharge in the designated disposal area.
• Experience operating the baffle plate to keep the pipeline clear of hazards such as traffic, navigational structures, and the river bank.
• Ability to operate equipment and machinery, and technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
• Physical effort involves continual reaching for and manipulating equipment controls simultaneously using hands and feet, standing for prolonged periods, and climbing stairs to the pilot house.
