Drainage Manager
Description
Under direct supervision, performs routine, non-hazardous work in one or more assigned areas of the police department. The hours and areas of assignment may be subject to change depending upon the operational needs of the department. May also be required to work holidays and/or weekends.
Duties
- furnish general information and assist the public in person at the front counter and over the telephone;
- perform computer data entries and general records duties;
- take minor police reports;
- perform traffic control direction at public gathering places and traffic collision scenes;
- issue parking violations and bicycle citations;
- mark vehicles with warning tags for various traffic violations;
- make residential vacation checks;
- perform messenger duties for various divisions of the police department;
- may accompany experienced officers on routine patrol;
- search files and obtain automated records management system data pertaining to traffic accidents, citations issued and cost recovery reports;
- assist in the booking of prisoners;
- provide public fingerprinting service;
- provide or arrange for routine service to police vehicles and radio equipment and conduct inventory of supplies in police vehicles;
- and perform other related, non-sworn duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of: Methods and techniques for resolving conflicts and interacting with the public; and operation of modern office equipment, including a personal computer using Windows-based software.
- Ability to: Learn and correctly interpret and apply laws pertinent to vehicle codes and local ordinances; learn standard broadcasting procedures of a police radio system; read and interpret maps; input data into a computerized records management system; efficiently operate office equipment, including a personal computer with Windows-based software; follow written and oral instructions; safely operate a motor vehicle; work various shifts, holidays and/or weekends; and establish and maintain an effective work relationship with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Experience, Education and Training
A typical combination is: six (6) months full-time experience involving extensive public contact and High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Other Requirements
- An incumbent in this classification is required to drive a City authorized vehicle in the performance of required field duties. A valid California Driver’s License is required accompanied by proof of an acceptable driving record and an acceptable driving record must be maintained during the course of employment.

This includes cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, GHB, ecstasy, etc. Any use of marijuana within three years of the date of application. Any marijuana use previous to three years of application date will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Any illegal or unauthorized use of prescription medications (using medications not prescribed to you) or the illegal transportation from another country into the United States. Any illegal use of anabolic steroids. Any illegal use of a hypodermic needle. FINANCIAL A bankruptcy within the past four years of the date of application. Exigent circumstances may be evaluated on an individual basis. A pattern or history of irresponsibility as evidenced by debt collections, civil judgments or failure to pay, etc. MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATIONS Any conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs within the past seven years of the date of application. More than one conviction of driving under the influence at any time. Three moving violations within the past five years. Involvement as a driver in three or more chargeable collisions within five years (the collisions were deemed to be your fault).
