About the role
The position involves inspecting, maintaining, constructing, and repairing county and inter-county drains and lake level structures. It also includes responding to environmental incidents and flood emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Performs drain inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Maintains and repairs department vehicles and equipment, including heavy equipment.
- Operates and transports department vehicles and equipment to job sites.
- Documents drain inspections, maintenance, construction, and repair work.
- Complies with state and federal statutes related to drain operations and maintenance.
- Responds to emergency situations involving drain operations and maintenance.
- Interacts with private landowners and the general public regarding drainage issues.
- Participates in 24-hour and weekend/holiday on-call emergency flood and environmental response systems.
Requirements
- Valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License.
- Certification of Commercial Pesticide Applicator preferred.
- Completion of training in soil erosion and sedimentation control, confined space entry, trench safety, traffic safety, environmental incident response, MIOSHA standards, CPR/stand first aid, and relevant state and federal statutes within the first year of employment.
Qualifications
- Specialized or technical training equivalent to 12 credit hours of college level training.
- Vocational training in welding and machine and vehicle maintenance preferred.
- Three years of experience that includes operation of heavy equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair; and drain operation and maintenance or construction experience.
- Four years of experience that includes operation of heavy equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair; and drain operation and maintenance or construction experience.
Skills
- Skilled in using computer and software applications related to job functions.
- Effective communication skills.

This position is benefited and is subject to the UAW GROUP CBA. The pay grade is G.
