Essential Duties
- Operates a dragline in all modes of digging, spoiling and propelling utilizing hand levers and foot pedals to rotate machine and position boom above excavation point; raises and lowers bucket to material; drags bucket forward to load material, rotates machine and lets bucket back out to dump.
- Affords assistance to supervisor with maintaining consistent dig sequence and windrow placement.
- Ants up to anticipated walking pad requirements and requests grading assistance to eliminate downtime on the machine.
- Inspects rope and predicts tooth changes.
- Affords assistance to other crew members to maintain a positive, engaged and safe work environment.
Other Duties
- Affords assistance with all repair and component replacements.
- At times, may be required to drive a company vehicle, must maintain a valid driving record (MVR) and in good standings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Prior demonstrated ability operating heavy equipment in a construction or mining environment.
- Ability to be trained in safe dragline operation, digging, spoiling and moving machine to maximize machine efficiency and reduce operating cost.
- Ability to work with other crew members and work as a team player is a must.
Education, Training And Experience
- Prior on-the-job experience as a heavy equipment operator is required.
- Ability to be trained in the safe operations of a dragline is a must.
Minimum Requirements
- Prior dragline operating experience a plus.
- Clean MVR.
- Ability to work rotating shifts.

- Intermittent: lifting, carrying, pushing up to 75 lbs. (tools & supplies); pushing and pulling up to 75 lbs. (making mechanical repairs); stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling (making mechanical repairs).
- Occasionally (0 -1/3 of workday): standing and walking (maintenance & cleaning), climbing and balancing (dragline boom & mounting equipment); reaching (equipment operation).
- Frequently (1/3 – 2/3 of workday): speaking (radio communication).
- Continually (2/3-3/3 of workday): sitting (equipment operation); handing and repetitive motions (controls); foot & leg movement (foot pedals); hearing (equipment problem detection, radio & hazard recognition); seeing and depth perception (equipment operation & hazard recognition).
Note
- 90% inside and 10% outside in all weather extremes.
- Works at heights when inspecting the dragline boom.
