Drafter - Structural

About the role
A Drafter within QISG is involved in a variety of engineering projects with a focus on structural design aspects for large-scale energy generation, transmission, and substation-related projects. Collaborating with an in-house, multi-disciplinary engineering and construction team — including civil, structural, geotechnical, construction management, and construction experts — the Drafter plays an important role in providing structural design deliverables. Responsibilities include supporting design production, contributing to the development of construction drawings and deliverables, and drawing/drafting support during construction.
Responsibilities
- Assist with development of and/or maintaining 2D & 3D models of structural framing and reinforced concrete using various CAD software.
- Produce detailed design drawings including overall plans, enlarged plans, sections, elevations and details developed in collaboration with engineers from conceptual sketches, specifications and engineering calculations while following QISG or client specific standards.
- Participate in development and continued updates of QISG drafting standards for structural CAD drawings for substation, buildings, transmission line foundations, and other structural and foundation related work.
- Assist engineers in the review of structural steel fabrication drawings and reinforced concrete drawings to verify compliance with design intent and project specifications.
- Interface closely with and support project teams with the ability to learn new software and develop new deliverables for varying structural project scopes.
- Demonstrate knowledge of quality control procedures to ensure the highest standards of workmanship.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of their work.
- Work under supervision of Lead Designer or Engineering Manager in a professional office setting.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in 2D AutoCAD drafting with a background in civil/structural drawing development and detailing.
- Basic knowledge of ASTM, AISC and ACI standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to work with moderate supervision and maximum efficiency in a small or medium-sized office setting.
- Associates degree in Drafting & Design.
- Experience in the utility industry or commercial building industry performing CAD/design for high voltage substation or commercial building projects.
- Experience with Microstation software.
- Experience with 3D and BIM design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Inventor, or REVIT.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to bend, lift, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces.

Pay
The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $50,000.00/Yr. - USD $72,700.00/Yr. depending on experience and qualifications.
