Full-time, 40 hours per week position with the Town of Belchertown.
About the role
Perform manual work assisting in the construction, maintenance, and repair projects of the Highway operations; all other related work as required.
Responsibilities
- Perform manual tasks in connection with the maintenance, care, upkeep, repair, marking, and beautification of highways, streets, parking lots, and other town property, including:
- Cutting grass
- Applying pavement markings and paint
- Raking, dumping, spreading, grading, and rolling of asphalt, gravel, stone, and other materials
- Cleaning, repair, and installation of culverts, catch basins, drains, and ditches
- Patching, paving, and repair of highways, streets, parking lots, sidewalks, etc.
- General cleaning of roads and streets
- Repair and replace signs
- Sweep sidewalks and roads, rake and mow lawns; pick up and haul debris and rubbish; shovel snow
- Plow snow with a light truck
- Work and assist mechanics in servicing automotive equipment as needed
- Assist other town departments; install water lines; assist in construction/maintenance projects within the wastewater treatment plant
- Regular attendance and punctuality at the workplace is required
Requirements
- High school education and one year of experience in a related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment relative to road construction and maintenance
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and to adhere to safety precautions
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 150 pounds, such as tools, equipment, supplies, etc.
- Must be able to operate equipment/trucks for extended periods during snow emergencies
Pay
$19.27–$25.31/hour. This is a Grade 3 IUOE Local 98 union position.
