About the role
The starting pay for this position is $5,872.97 monthly or $70,475.64 yearly, calculated based on the current 10-hour day, 50-hour work week.
Responsibilities
- Livest on campus during the 30-week Recruit School.
- Participate in a strenuous physical fitness program.
- Apprehend traffic law violators, investigate rural traffic crashes, recover stolen vehicles/stolen property, apprehend wanted persons, and assist other agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be assigned to the Texas Highway Patrol after graduation.
- Accept assignment anywhere in Texas.
Requirements
- Must be at least 20 years old to apply.
- Must be 21 years old at the time of graduation and promotion to Probationary Trooper.
- Minimum of 60 college earned hours from a regional accredited college or university, or an associate degree.
- Academic requirements may be substituted by National Guard personnel with 730 retirement points or 6 years' service in the Reserve or National Guard.
- Valid Texas Peace Officer license or an honorable discharge from the US Armed Forces with at least 24 months of active duty.
- Must be able to show proof of high school graduation or GED.
- May combine approved work experience with college earned hours to meet the minimum requirements.
- Must qualify on written/physical demands tests and pass a polygraph examination, background investigation, psychological testing, physical/vision examinations, and drug screening.
Qualifications
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Must provide an original or certified copy of birth certificate/military history (DD-214/Member 4/NGB-22), credit report, high school transcript, or GED, and college transcript.
- Must provide an official court disposition on all criminal charges, except if the applicant was a minor when the charge occurred.
- Must ensure their TCOLE Personal Status Report (PSR) lists any prior law enforcement experience.

Schedule
Duty shifts and hours vary, ranging from day/evening/night shifts and can exceed 40 hours per week.
