DOTP-Maintenance Manager

About the Role

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for daily supervision, monitoring, and coaching of employees to ensure a productive workforce in compliance with company policies. This role involves work planning, on-the-job training, arranging maintenance work, inspections, and initiating requisitions for tools, materials, equipment, and parts from vendors and contractors. The position also includes calibration and storage of instrument test and measuring equipment, ensuring personnel compliance with applicable standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programs by monitoring completion of safety concerns, incident investigation action items, and attending required meetings.
  • Serves as a member of the plant leadership team and acts as temporary plant manager or operations manager as needed.
  • Represents the plant as Outage Authority and process subject matter expert in support of corporate activities and initiatives.
  • Coordinates the development and use of work scope packages for activities performed during unit outages, including pre- and post-outage activities.
  • Oversees the development of work order plan packages, including labor, material, equipment, Lockout/Tagout, technical support, and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Leads the development and implementation of outage resource and performance strategies to efficiently perform all outage work.
  • Oversees the development of plans, schedules, and budgets for planned, maintenance, and forced outage work, including scope growth.
  • Leads day-to-day performance and coordination of all outage work, including resource allocation, work interference planning, and shared services.
  • Oversees the selection and use of contractors and vendors to perform outage work in accordance with company policy.
  • Responsible for the effective use of outage controls, performance reporting, communications, and plan revisions.
  • Promotes productivity and teamwork in Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations through open communication, timely decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Oversees the development and management of outage work order lists to support fast, efficient planning and execution.
  • Supports the development of technical, leadership, and business skills of employees in a competitive environment.
  • Provides regular feedback to employees on performance to capitalize on strengths and address improvement opportunities.
  • Ensures development and implementation of assigned area goals, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Supports and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programs, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Reviews performance with customers/clients and addresses opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensures cost-effective utilization of resources, including contracted services, craftsmen time, and overtime.
  • Performs field inspections of job sites and work in progress.
  • Proactively identifies and resolves problems.
  • Ensures development, implementation, and monitoring of work plans and schedules.
  • Ensures work performed by external service providers aligns with objectives, responsibilities, and contractual agreements.
  • Maintains a working relationship with employees consistent with personnel policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates internal and external resources to support maintenance activities, projects, and programs.
  • Develops and maintains long-range, equipment-specific outage plans using predictive, preventive, and cost analysis tools.
  • Oversees performance, coordination, and inspection of outage-related work performed offsite at other facilities.
  • Manages third-party, contract, and vendor coordination, including approving charges, bid package evaluation, and asbestos management.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of quality control programs for outage management and execution.
  • Provides visible and active support for the plant outage program.
  • Develops and delivers awareness-level training for the plant organization on outage planning and performance standards.
  • Develops and maintains written outage procedures to improve plant outage performance and ensure consistent execution.
  • Maintains focus on continuous improvement and employs industry best practices for outage and work management.
  • Ensures employees correctly use the lockout/tagout program to promote safe operations and maintenance.
  • Develops appropriate shifts, schedules, staffing, and response programs to control costs and enhance response time and performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of power plant operations or maintenance experience, or a Baccalaureate degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus 7 years of equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience leading/supervising employees in a related field.
  • Project management skills.
  • This position is a DOT PHMSA covered position and requires passing a pre-employment DOT drug screen and drug and alcohol testing background check. Once hired, participation in the NRG DOT Program is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Combined Cycle Power Plant operations.
  • Experience with quality processes and formal programs.
  • Experience with SAP, Work Management Process, and SuperCritical Power Plant operational experience.

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to safely use, handle, and inspect equipment containing hazardous energy, hazardous chemicals, and hazardous wastes. The role involves:

  • Routine use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for identified hazards.
  • Familiarity with and appropriate response to hazards, including repairs on equipment containing chemicals, containment of chemical leaks, and response to electrical interruptions.
  • Frequent climbing of ladders, entering confined spaces, and working from elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways at elevations of 80 feet or more.
  • Crawling through confined areas and wearing an air-purifying respirator.
  • Lifting a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and 50 pounds from the floor to the waist.
  • Working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Climbing vertical access ladders and stairwells, carrying up to 50 pounds, and effectively seeing, hearing, walking, and talking.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently climb ladders and enter confined spaces.
  • Work from elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways at heights of 80 feet or more.
  • Crawl through confined areas.
  • Wear and work using an air-purifying respirator.
  • Lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and 50 pounds from the floor to the waist.
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, carry up to 50 pounds, and effectively use senses (sight, hearing, walking, talking).
