Dorm Parent (Part-Time)
Position Summary
The Dorm Parent will work as a vital member of a closely based team of dedicated staff, providing oversight mentorship, and wellness support. Emphasize a Christ-like culture within the dorms by showing love and support for every individual and ensure the health and well-being of the boarding community. Enhance learning to establish good behavior within the international student boarding community. Nurture a diverse group of students from across the globe, fostering continuous engagement and supporting their daily lives. Build trust by overseeing and advocating for students. Focus on character development and promoting a safe and welcoming community. Actively participate in the life of the dorm, serving as a visible and engaged mentor and being prepared for emergencies.
Essential Functions
- Provide consistent oversight and wellness support for residents, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
- Aid students with their residential needs, study skills development, and resources to enhance learning.
- Support specific dorm meetings, formal dinners, activities, and special events organized for resident students.
- Collaborate and communicate with the International Student Program Director, Residential Life Director, residential staff, students, and other CRISTA staff (facilities, security, IT, Senior Living).
- Fulfill administrative tasks related to the dorm, including record keeping, communication, and reporting student progress.
- Participate in required staff meetings and engage in relevant training and orientations for staff at the start and end of the academic year (if required).
Community Building & Leadership
- Organize and lead engaging activities and events that promote community building, cultural exchange, and recreational opportunities when requested.
- Promote character education opportunities that emphasize the values of integrity, respect, and responsibility.
- Reinforce the importance of community leadership by modeling behavior consistent with the values of King’s Schools.
- Model and encourage Christ-like behavior, demonstrating support for others within the dorm community.
Additional Duties
- Fulfill all administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.
- Occasionally required to transport students to and from (Sea Tac Airport to campus).
Essential Qualifications
- CHRIST CENTERED:
- Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
- A committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc.).
- Prayfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA.
- Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices.
- Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
- Carrries a track record of acting effectively and supervising students in a variety of potential emergency situations.
- EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress from an accredited college or similar advanced training in a relevant field.
- EXPERIENCE:
- Working with young people as a mentor, as a dorm parent or higher, classroom teacher, camp counselor, youth group leader, or in a similar role.
- LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION:
- Van Training (DOT),
- CPR Certification,
- Medical Admin Certification,
- Food Handlers Permit (can be completed on the job)
- SOFTWARE / EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE:
- Basics of Microsoft Office Suit
- REACH Dorm Software (can be completed on the job)
- VECTOR Software Training (can be completed on the job)
Other Considerations
- Ability to pass background checks relating to DSHS Secretary’s List of Crimes and Negative Actions. (WAC 388-113).
- Exhibit commitment to personal integrity, character development and community membership as well as broad emotional intelligence and a deep reserve of patience.
- Illustrate willingness to support and engage in programming specific to character development and community building, and recreational and cultural activities.
- Practice cultural humility in personal interactions.
- Maintain designated duty shifts, flexibility to cover afternoons to late nights, weekends and participate in additional school events and dorm activities outside regular duty hours.
- Is eligible to work in the United States.
