About the role

Performs generally routine duties in accepting donated goods at the Attended Donation Center. Works under the general supervision of the Lead Donation Center Attendant.

Responsibilities

  • Report amount of material in Donation Center and material outside Donation Center which needs to be removed by truck to supervisor at beginning of shift.
  • Clean area surrounding Donation Center of donations left overnight and other debris.
  • Cordially greet donors and accept goods donated.
  • Assist donors by carrying material which is to be accepted and explaining material which cannot be accepted and why it must be refused.
  • Provide a gift receipt form to the donor and maintain a copy.
  • Sort textiles into storage boxes.
  • Place paired shoes, small appliances and miscellaneous hard goods into carts.
  • Place furniture at rear of Donation Center.
  • Separate trash for trash receptacle.
  • Secure Donation Center at end of shift and assure that area is clear of debris.
  • Respond to alarm calls before/after typical business hours, following established procedures and using personal transportation.
  • Perform other related essential duties as required or assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • May be required to push crates (on wheels) that may weigh up to 600 pounds on flat or sloped surfaces.
  • Assist customers with unloading donations, including large and heavy items such as furniture and appliances.
  • Use proper lifting techniques and seek assistance when handling heavy objects.

Work Environment

  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Noise level is usually moderate, typical of a busy retail environment.
