Job Responsibilities

If you are currently C-1 Certified, please apply for Job #190326- Under general supervision, the Specialized Domestic Violence Agent will serve as the first line of supervision for a Domestic Violence caseload. Maintain a professional communication network inside and outside the Department, promotes public relations within the local community and with service providers. Maintain effective knowledge of all areas of Domestic Violence Supervision, Programs, Policies and Protocols. Participate in trainings and maintain all requirements for Domestic Violence Certification.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

• A bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses. An associate’s degree and two (2) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (to include Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted; or a high school diploma and four (4) years of military or certified law enforcement experience (to include Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience) may be substituted.
• In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, applicants will be required to obtain C-1 law enforcement certification by the SC Criminal Justice Academy within 1 year of employment (12 weeks which includes an 8 week sequestration at the academy).

Qualifications

• Must be a legal resident of South Carolina or able to become a resident of South Carolina prior to being hired.
• Must be a United States Citizen.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.

• Must reside within the assigned county within which you work. Must receive approval from chain of command if choosing to live outside your assigned county.

• Must have a record clear of any conviction for a criminal offense that carried a sentence of one year or more or of any criminal offense that involves domestic violence or moral turpitude (forfeiture of a bond, a guilty pleas, or a plea of nolo contendere is considered the equivalent of a conviction).

• Must be willing to undergo a physical exam at your own expense should you be selected for a position.
• Willing to be on call 24 hours a day subject to being called to assist in offender-related matters and respond to state emergencies.
• Willing to visit offenders' homes, some of which are in dangerous neighborhoods; willing to go into homes that are unkempt and deal with offenders who have poor personal hygiene habits.
• Willing to interview victims and their families regarding the release of an inmate.
• Willing to tolerate adverse conditions and/or abusive language (for example, catcalls, hecklers, vicious dogs).
• Willing to go into state prisons and local jails to interview offenders.
• Willing to work independently, yet make all case decisions in accordance with Department policy and procedures.
• Willing to learn and apply restraint procedures in order to deal with resistant violators.
• Willing to complete (12) weeks of CJA training and three (3) weeks of PPP Basic training including firearms training and defensive driving.
• The Criminal Justice Academy requires all students that carry a chemical weapon as part of their duty equipment, be sprayed during the 12-week law enforcement class.
• Willing to certify in firearms training and use possible deadly force, if necessary.
• Willing to issue and serve warrants, arrest violators and present cases to the court that might result in an individual's incarceration.
