Domestic Violence Advocate – Hospital Advocacy

Kansas City, MO – Rose Brooks Center, a nonprofit domestic violence agency, is seeking a full-time Domestic Violence Advocate (internal classification: Bridge Coordinator) to provide direct advocacy and safety planning services to victims of domestic violence in clinical and hospital settings.

About the role

The advocate coordinates with hospitals and service areas to create an environment supportive of reaching victims of domestic violence. Responsibilities include promoting awareness and utilization of the Bridge Program through training, marketing, and public speaking; contributing to hospital and clinic policy development; providing task force leadership; coordinating service delivery; and assisting with after-hours advocacy and training.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct advocacy and safety planning services to victims of domestic violence in clinical and hospital settings.
• Coordinate with hospitals and service areas to create a supportive environment for victims.
• Promote awareness and utilization of the Bridge Program through training, marketing, and public speaking.
• Contribute to hospital and clinic policy development.
• Provide task force leadership and coordinate service delivery.
• Assist with after-hours advocacy and training as needed.
• Perform all job responsibilities in accordance with agency policies and procedures, demonstrating proficiency in all RBC competencies and utilizing trauma-informed care principles.
• Maintain awareness of secondary trauma risks and practice self-care.
• Attend scheduled staff, team, and supervision meetings.
• Participate in all required trainings.
• Work in office, hospital, and clinic settings with limited local travel.

Requirements

• One year or more experience working in a hospital/healthcare environment, providing inclusive services to a diverse client group including at-risk populations, or commensurate experience.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks while remaining flexible.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, database systems, and other software.
• Must provide proof of immunizations or obtain a blood test to verify immunization; must receive annual flu vaccine (due to hospital requirements).
• Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.

Qualifications

• Preferred: Experience providing domestic violence advocacy.
• Preferred: Experience in public health.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in social work/human services or a related field, or commensurate experience; relevant coursework is a plus.
• Preferred: Bilingual (Spanish/English).

Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position averaging 40 hours per week, primarily scheduled Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Flexibility is required to work occasional evenings for participant schedules, meetings, or program-related activities. The role also assists with after-hours advocacy and training as needed.

Pay

This position offers a salary starting at $48,000 annually (exempt).
