About the role

Full-time dog kennel attendant position at a new, state-of-the-art facility on North Shore Drive, Hillsboro. Typical schedule Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with potential for occasional weekend work as directed by the Chief Dog Warden.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain kennels, animal holding areas, examination or operating rooms, and animal loading or unloading facilities to control the spread of disease.
  • Prepare feed for animals according to specific instructions such as diet lists or schedules.
  • Perform hygiene-related duties, including clipping animals’ claws and cleaning and polishing teeth.
  • Monitor dogs for signs of illness and promptly report any concerns to leadership.
  • Exercise animals or provide them with companionship.
  • Dust, spray, or bathe animals to control insects.
  • Monitor animals recovering from surgery and notify veterinarians of any unusual changes or symptoms.
  • Perform general office duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Deputy Warden and leadership.

Qualifications

  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Previous experience working with dogs preferred.
  • Ability to be comfortable around, handle, and restrain dogs of various sizes and temperaments safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Compassionate attitude toward animals and dedication to their welfare.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers, staff, leadership, and the public.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform strenuous physical tasks.
  • Ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours in a full shift.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • This position requires regular and direct contact with dogs in enclosed environments; individuals with dog allergies may find this work environment incompatible with their health needs.
