DofE Expedition and Training Session Worker – JLGB DofE

About the role

This role is ideal for someone looking for outdoor session work, expedition delivery, and the chance to support young people through a major achievement. JLGB delivers a faith-sensitive and kosher DofE programme, supporting around 1,000 young people each year. You can choose to support training sessions, expeditions, or both. Full training is provided and DofE experience is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support groups of young people aged 14–18 during overnight camp expeditions.
• Provide supportive, encouraging leadership to help young people succeed.
• Ensure JLGB safeguarding, safety procedures and DofE standards are followed.
• Teach navigation, route planning, and expedition readiness skills during training sessions.
• Support young people with kit preparation, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Requirements

• Experience of working with young people.
• Excellent communication skills with both adults and young people.
• An ability to organize and plan effectively.
• Calm decision-making and a supportive leadership style.
• Enhanced DBS check (JLGB can facilitate).
• A full UK driving license required for expedition work.

Qualifications

• Previous DofE delivery or expedition leadership experience is desirable but not essential.
• Outdoor leadership qualifications or relevant experience are desirable but not essential.

Pay

Day rates vary. A typical 2-day Bronze expedition rate whilst camping starts from £185 and increases up to £310 for qualified expedition leads (depending on experience and responsibilities).

Schedule

Sessional / zero hours.
