DoD SkillBridge Quality Inspector - Flightline Avionics

About the role

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for an A320 Flightline Quality Avionic Inspector (Rotating Shifts) to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program and join our Manufacturing team based in Mobile, AL. In this role, you will be responsible for the planning, execution and verification of the Quality activities in the Flightline phase, starting from the milestone FOT in the FAL to the final delivery to the customer. This includes the demonstration of aircraft system integrity, conformity with design specifications, and verification of Ground Test Instructions (GTI).

Airbus is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner (per DoDI 1322.29). This 180-day program allows transitioning service members to leverage their military technical expertise in a high-precision aerospace environment.

SkillBridge Eligibility

• Active-duty service member within 180 days of separation
• Written Commander (O-4 or above) authorization
• Must have current work authorization for U.S. positions

Responsibilities

Flightline Quality Avionic Inspector – 50%

• Release the aircraft for all ground and flight operations (Engine Run-up Inspections, Pre and Post flight checks under EASA Part 21G and after the transfer of title under FAA 14 CFR Part 145)
• Conduct comprehensive aircraft testing, evaluate results, and document tests and discrepancies within the Airbus Log Book (ALB)
• Execute quality inspections of standard and non-standard aircraft production and maintenance activities, including all associated documentation
• Provide technical support and execute troubleshooting (T/S) for aircraft avionic systems
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and serve as the liaison for resolving technical issues with Engineering, customers, and suppliers
• Ensure and certify aircraft conformity, possessing final signature authorization as a Quality Inspector

FAL-GTE (Final Assembly Line - Ground Test Engineer) – 40%

• Under delegation from the Flight Test Department (IVR), conduct aircraft ground checks subsequent to the FOT milestone
• Prepare the aircraft and test environment for system-wide ground tests
• Document non-conformities in the Airbus Log Book (ALB) and initiate a Repeat Test Instruction (RTI) following completion of rework
• This qualification requires extensive training and will commence after achieving the Inspector qualification
• Execute all required ground checks (static system tests, APU run, low and high power engine run, low speed taxi, and compass swing) strictly in accordance with the Production Aircraft Test Manual (PATM)

FAA Part 145 Repair Station Inspector – 5%

• Conduct aircraft testing, evaluate, and document test results and discrepancies within the Part 145 Work Package
• Assist with and execute troubleshooting (T/S) on aircraft avionic systems
• Manage the Part 145 Work Package and issue the official Release to Service (RTS)

Other duties as assigned – 5%

Qualifications

Required Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• FAA Airframe & Powerplant License including inspection authorization

Preferred Education:

• Quality trainings on Airbus A320 T1 & T2 preferred

Required Experience:

• 3 years of Quality Inspection experience preferably on A320 Family aircraft in an aviation company or military aircraft
• Experience in troubleshooting Avionic/Airframe/Powerplant Systems
• Flightline experience preferred
• Leadership experience

Licensure/Certifications:

• FAA issued A & P or EASA Part 66 license (for FAA 14 CFR Part 145 activities after Transfer of Title) or substantial portfolio of documented aircraft maintenance and Quality inspection experience (airframe and powerplant)

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities

• Knowledge of drawing systems, inspection plans and inspection processes
• Knowledge of inspection principles, practices, methods and tools used on the production line
• Knowledge of rules for aircraft design and manufacturing
• Extensive knowledge on A320 Family Avionic Systems
• Communication Skills (Spoken, Written): Clear and precise English communication skills, able to give direction
• Technical Systems Proficiency: Proven experience in the performance of GTI's (Ground Test Instruction) Avionic/Airframe/Powerplant System - Basic A/C

Decision Making, Complexity

• Must be able make decisions quickly while in control of operating aircraft to ensure the safety of personnel and the aircraft
• Must be able to inspect and attest standard / non-standard work using the correct technical documentation and without bias

Physical Requirements

• Vision: Adequate to read material (electronic or paper), aircraft gauges, airport signage, safety labels and signage. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions
• Hearing: Able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals
• Speaking: Able to clearly communicate in English, in person or via electronic means, and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification
• Equipment Operation: Able to operate personal and office electronic equipment. Able to operate Powered Industrial equipment and work on jigs for fuselage access at a height of 15 feet. Able to operate and work on hydraulic lifts sometimes at a height of up to 40 feet
• Carrying: Able to occasionally carry up to 55 lbs/25kg while engaging in work, training, addressing production issues, or as part of continuous improvement projects
• Lifting: Able to occasionally lift up to 55 lbs/25kg
• Pushing/Pulling: Able to push/pull items in your work environment
• Sitting: Able to sit for extended periods of time at computer, in meetings, or on aircraft
• Squatting/Kneeling: Able to work on or in the wing or center wing box, in a confined space. Entrance into the wing by a 9.8 inch x 17.7 inch oval opening. Able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves
• Standing: Able to stand for extended periods of time, delivering information
• Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas, around flightline, hangars and ramp, sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces

Working Conditions

• Environment will be a mix of office time and outdoor activities
• Capable of supporting a two shift system and occasional weekends, based on business needs
• Willingness to maintain second shift once qualified is preferred

Travel

• 10% Domestic and International
• Able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time
