DOD Skillbridge Internship - Patrol to Power

About the role

NRG offers internships under a local union contract. This internship provides hands-on experience in operating, inspecting, and monitoring steam power plant equipment.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

- Operate, inspect, and monitor steam power plant equipment safely and efficiently. - Recognize and adhere to safety guidelines. - Learn and apply proper operating procedures. - Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational issues. - Record data using various instruments and monitoring devices. - Perform routine cleaning tasks.

Working Conditions

- Work in various temperature and climate conditions. - Operate in high noise areas and around large rotating equipment. - Climb stairs, ladders, and work from elevated positions. - Work irregular or rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Minimum Requirements

- Possess or obtain within 60 days an Associate's Degree in Process Technology or related field. - Alternatively, have 2 years of power plant operations or relevant military experience.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Operate various switches and valves. - Communicate plant system and equipment conditions. - Interpret meter and gauge readings. - Tag out and lock out equipment. - Perform maintenance checks. - Operate company vehicles and equipment. - Use computers and associated software. - Perform basic calculations and laboratory tests. - Work in a team environment. - Assist others in performance testing.

Physical Requirements

- Work irregular or rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. - Respond to emergencies. - Perform tasks involving walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, climbing, and handling tools weighing up to 25 pounds. - Lift, carry, position, and use tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. - Twist the body and neck while driving company vehicles or operating company equipment. - Wear personal protective equipment as required. - Perform tasks in mentally stressful environments.

Pay and Benefits

Salary offered will be commensurate with the successful candidate's education and/or experience, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. NRG Energy is committed to a drug and alcohol-free workplace and conducts periodic random drug and alcohol testing. EOE AA M/F/Vet/Disability
