About the role
The Simulation Analyst will work on-site with a client on a high-impact defense innovation project. Key responsibilities include configuring, adapting, troubleshooting, and enhancing advanced military simulation capabilities. The role involves translating operational questions into executable simulation scenarios, extending or modifying simulation models, identifying performance or fidelity issues, and gathering actionable feedback.
Responsibilities
- Configure, adapt, and troubleshoot advanced military simulations
- Extend or modify simulation models and scenario configurations as needed
- Identify and address performance or fidelity issues
- Gather actionable feedback on simulation products
- Translate operational questions into executable simulation scenarios
- Collaborate with operators, analysts, planners, trainers, and SMEs to clarify mission context and translate operational language into technical requirements
- Document assumptions, limitations, data pedigree, measures, uncertainties, and risks related to interpretation
- Convert field observations into clear bug reports, feature requests, acceptance criteria, and roadmap recommendations
- Operate in a military customer environment, adhering to classification and data-handling rules while maintaining customer trust
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field; graduate-level degree preferred
- Over 5 years of experience in simulation, preferably for military applications
- Proficient in configuring and operating complex military simulations, with a solid understanding of scenario design, entity behavior, force representation, terrain/environment effects, and simulation run control
- Experience in building repeatable scenarios, managing configuration baselines, creating scenario variants, and documenting changes effectively
- Ability to diagnose model behavior, identify data issues, troubleshoot run-time failures, resolve integration problems, and address performance bottlenecks
- Practical experience with scripting, data files, configuration management, version control, issue tracking, logs, telemetry, and reproducible defect reporting
- Capable of collaborating with operators, analysts, planners, trainers, and SMEs to clarify mission context and translate operational language into technical requirements
- Experience in documenting assumptions, limitations, data pedigree, measures, uncertainties, and risks related to interpretation
- Able to operate in a military customer environment, adhering to classification and data-handling rules while maintaining customer trust
Qualifications
- Active or eligible security clearance, as required by contract
Skills
- Experience in military wargaming, campaign analysis, mission-level simulation, constructive simulation, or agent-based simulation
- Knowledge of verification, validation, and accreditation (VV&A), model validation, data pedigree, or documentation for analysis credibility
- Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, C#, Lua, SQL, or other domain-specific configuration languages
- Experience with simulation interoperability or distributed simulation concepts, including High-Level Architecture (HLA), Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), Test and Evaluation Collaboration Environment (TENA), or equivalent proprietary architectures
- Familiarity with military operations, joint/coalition planning, force structure, command and control, weapons and sensors, logistics, or mission analysis
