Doctor of Psychiatry

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary team, providing comprehensive mental health care for inpatient adult/geriatric psych facility and outpatient clinical settings. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders through individualized care plans.

Responsibilities

Inpatient and outpatient settings require various responsibilities, including:

• Conducting thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments
• Developing and implementing treatment plans, including medication management and psychotherapy
• Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, including medical doctors, nurse practitioners, social workers, and nursing staff
• Providing crisis intervention and stabilization for acute psychiatric cases
• Participating in discharge planning to ensure continuity of care
• Performing initial patient assessments and follow-up consultations
• Prescribing and managing medications, monitoring for side effects and efficacy
• Providing individual, group, and family therapy
• Coordinating care with primary care physicians and other specialists
• Educating patients and families about mental health conditions and treatment options

Clinical settings also involve:

• Conducting clinical research and staying updated on the latest psychiatric treatments and practices
• Supervising and training medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals
• Maintaining accurate and timely medical records, adhering to privacy and confidentiality standards
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits
• Engaging in continuous professional development and education

Qualifications

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
• Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry
• Valid medical license to practice in Mississippi
• Experience in inpatient, outpatient, and clinical settings preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
• Strong organizational and time-management skills

Work Environment

The work environment includes working primarily in an outpatient clinic and the DPU of Beacham Memorial Hospital, with full-time and part-time positions available, and some on-call responsibilities. The work environment is supportive, with opportunities for professional growth and development.
