Dockworker (Hostler)

About the role

The Dockworker (Hostler) position at XPO requires a minimum of 18 years of age, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to perform basic math calculations. Candidates must also pass a company-paid, post-offer, pre-hire physical essential functions test. Preferred qualifications include tractor/trailer experience, dock/warehouse experience, forklift experience, and basic written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Moves trailers throughout the property using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including a pallet jack and forklift.
• Efficiently loads freight a minimum of 1 day per week.
• Safely operates a hostler in all types of weather, walking and standing for extended periods.
• Safely operates heavy equipment, such as moving, positioning, and connecting/disconnecting a converter dolly with an average weight/pull force of approximately 128 lbs.
• Works in a safe, efficient manner while adhering to company safety policies.
• Uses mobile handheld devices to scan and track shipments.
• Lifts objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights to 50 lbs. frequently and greater than 70 lbs. occasionally.
• Reaches (including above your head), bends, climbs, pushes, pulls, twists, squats, and kneels.
• Walks and stands for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must be available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be able to do basic math calculations, with and without a calculator.

Skills

Basic written and verbal communication skills, along with a desire to succeed and strong attention to detail, are preferred qualifications for this position.

This is a Motor Carrier Act Exempt position. Pay starts at $24.83/hour. Full health insurance is provided on day one. Life and disability insurance are also included. Employees earn up to 13 days of PTO over their first year, with 9 paid company holidays. A 401(k) option with company match is available, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan is also offered.
