Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate all litigation filings, docketing and calendaring for litigators in the NY office and other offices of the firm.
- Provide supplemental support to the Miami office litigation department when appropriate.
- Support MAO team-members with filings, research and the like.
- File and service, electronically or by other means, papers in state and federal courts, including pleadings, motions and discovery papers.
- Perform docketing and calendaring tasks by using firm's calendar software.
- Work with vendors to obtain court files, serve process, and other litigation-related support.
- Maintain and update electronic databases such as ECF logins, form files, etc.
- Confirm procedure by performing online research and/or contacting clerks of court.
- Respond to written or verbal requests/inquiries from attorneys, paralegals and secretaries regarding calendared events, pleadings, and court procedures and modifications to compliance dates on the docket calendar.
- Review papers before service and filing for correct form, signatures, required filing fees, required number of copies, etc.
- Stay informed on procedural best practices, case trends, and rule changes.
- Draft form documents and letters.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of PACER, CourtAlert, NYS Unified Court System, CompuLaw, Courthouse News Service, and Courtlink.
- Knowledge of Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, NY Civil Practice Law and Rules, NY Rules of Court, and local practices.
- Demonstrated ability in complex filings, both paper and electronic.
- Ability to effectively work under pressure in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely and build relationships with lawyers, clients and staff to achieve results.
- Requires a high level of collaboration.
- Able to raise potential defects with filings based on experience and knowledge.
- Flexibility to adjust hours and work necessary to meet operating and business needs.
Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or minimum of (2-3) years of experience working as a Docket Clerk in a Managing Attorney’s/Clerk’s office or a professional services environment is required.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
Pay
The expected salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skill set, and geographic location.
