Dock Supervisor

Report to the Operations Manager, Assistant Service Center Manager, or Service Center Manager.

About the role

Lead, guide, and direct dock employees, including setting targets, monitoring performance, providing coaching, counseling, and development. Accountable for managing an efficient, clean, and safe LTL operation, including dock planning and scheduling. Enforce compliance with all Company policies, procedures, safety rules, and government regulations. Participate in and make recommendations for hiring and termination processes. Administer and execute assigned portions of the Service Center Business plan. Responsible for meeting all assigned KPIs.

Responsibilities

  • Daily utilization of all Company enhancement tools and processes
  • Review and revise schedules to increase efficiencies and lower costs
  • Responsible for equipment assignment and movement (trailers and tractors) in collaboration with other supervisors/management
  • Oversee and ensure proper communication to customers via phone, fax, or email
  • Manage all paperwork associated with the dock to ensure timely and correct handling by employees
  • Regular attendance is required
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned based on operational, safety, or other needs

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry, including basic paperwork flow (preferred)
  • Prior management, dispatch, and dock experience, preferably in the LTL trucking industry
  • Knowledge of the local metropolitan area
  • Strong leadership skills, including hiring, coaching, counseling, training, mentoring, and terminating employees
  • Team-building and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Good computer skills (AS/400 and MS Office a plus)
  • Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work an average of 50 hours per week
  • Ability to work any shift, including nights and/or weekends, and in any weather condition
  • Capable of lifting approximately 20 lbs. or more as required by job functions
  • Compliance with all company policies, rules, procedures, and Code of Conduct
  • Ability to interact well with others and work independently or in a team setting
  • Capability to work under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comply with written information such as safety rules, operations manuals, and maintenance instructions
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and a criminal history background check
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
