About the Scholarship

The Win Brockmeyer Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually by the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin to outstanding high school football players in the greater Wausau area. The scholarship honors the legacy of Win Brockmeyer, a legendary high school football coach known for his leadership and development of young athletes.

The scholarship fund was established within the Community Foundation by the Win Brockmeyer Memorial Committee, supported by over 125 donors. Brockmeyer coached at Wausau High School from 1937 to 1971, serving students in the area now covered by DC Everest, Wausau East, Wausau West, and Newman Catholic high schools.

2024 Scholarship Recipients

  • Blake Bangtson, DC Everest High School – Outstanding Player of the Year ($1,500 scholarship)
  • Evan Groene, Newman Catholic High School – Nominee ($500 scholarship)
  • Jesse Napgezek, Wausau East High School – Nominee ($500 scholarship)
  • Will McCorison, Wausau West High School – Nominee ($500 scholarship)

Selection Criteria

To be nominated, student-athletes must meet the following criteria established by the Win Brockmeyer Memorial Committee in 1996:

  • Be a graduating senior from DC Everest, Newman Catholic, Wausau East, Wausau West, or another area high school with a football program.
  • Demonstrate outstanding football ability.
  • Earn recognition from peers and coaches.
  • Serve as a positive role model.
  • Exhibit the following qualities: aggressiveness, courage, physical development, and sportsmanship.

Since its inception, 116 young men have received scholarships through the Win Brockmeyer Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Memorial Committee

The Win Brockmeyer Memorial Committee honors the memory of Aaron Baumgardt, Walter Bissell, Cal Chamberlain, David Graebel, Robert Hartwig, Ernie Hoenisch, John Hollingsworth, Barbara Hunger, and Harlan Hunger.
