About the Role
This project aims to demonstrate that replacing a divot is superior to filling it with sand/seed mix, particularly in the fall. The experiment was conducted at Edina Country Club on hole number 12, near the bunker on the left, approximately 90 yards from the middle of the green.
Responsibilities
- Conduct side-by-side divot repair experiments comparing replacement versus filling with sand/seed mix.
- Document the condition of divots over time with photographs and observations.
- Analyze and report on the recovery progress of divots through different seasons.
- Revisit and assess the test divots after winter and into the next growing season.
- Run additional divot tests in spring and summer for comparative analysis.
Details
The first experiment began on October 10, 2017. A divot filled with sand/seed mix showed no signs of germination or recovery by October 29, 2017, while a replaced divot (about 85% intact) exhibited living tissue and was healing. Follow-up observations will continue into 2018.
Photographic documentation is available for the following dates: October 10, 11, 13, 18, 21, 25, and 29, 2017.
