About the Role

To provide leadership to the Creative Arts Department, take a lead role in planning for all divisional events, and promote and equip for the enhancement of worship services both at the corps and divisional levels. The Creative Arts Director will support and promote all divisional events using corps and divisional creative arts groups, and work closely with Corps officers to equip them with resources and program outlines to enhance worship components and worship services.

The Divisional Creative Arts Director is expected to demonstrate the highest standards and loyalty to The Salvation Army through spiritual commitment, uniform wearing, soldiering at a corps, and other related practices.

Responsibilities

• Support all corps in assessing and enhancing their quality of worship, with an intentional focus on Sunday worship.
• Provide corps with creative worship program ideas and resources, introducing and encouraging a variety of forms of expression.
• Teach creative arts at corps and ensure local leadership is trained to continue this ministry.
• Identify, recruit, and develop leaders for Regional and Corps leadership in Creative Arts.
• Provide Regional training and events to help develop leaders and growth through a 3-year Regional plan focusing on 2 different regions per year, rotating regions year over year.
• Attend corps events in support of corps creative arts performances.
• Support corps with leadership and resources to assist in the further development of creative arts programming, including creative program ideas, leadership recruitment and development, and recruitment and training of corps group participants.
• Create developmentally appropriate activities for youth and adults in the fields of dance, drama, and art, including digital and video resources.
• Track all forms of creative arts, including but not limited to dance, drama, and art in the division.
• Coordinate the Empire Divisional Drama Team, including the Summer Ministry Team to help with VBS and Jesus Theater Training.
• Coordinate the Empire Divisional Dance group.
• Oversee the Divisional Youth Music and Arts (DYMA) program, including recruitment, training, and processing of DYMA leaders.
• Plan DYMA schedules in cooperation with the Divisional Music Director; communicate regularly with the field regarding monthly schedule and any updates.
• Promote and assist corps with DYMA participant recruitment.
• Plan, direct, and recruit leadership for the Creative Arts component of Divisional Music & Arts Camp.
• Plan, direct, and recruit leadership for Arts Conservatory.
• Create and teach choral readings, responsive readings, and choreodramas to enhance worship throughout all seasons of the year, including holidays and special occasions.
• Create and provide meeting outlines to promote variety and innovation in worship services.
• Create and provide themed lists of SA songbook songs, hymns, and praise & worship music to promote the use of themes within worship services, tying in appropriately themed scripture readings, dance, and drama.
• Promote the use of live music and, where appropriate, worship videos (approved according to CCLI licensing).
• Actively participate in divisional events, including Divisional Family Camp, Youth Councils, Star Search, Jr. Soldier Rallies, Music & Arts Camp and Conservatory, Women’s and Men’s Camp, and Divisional Rallies and gatherings.
• Attend and give stage direction for divisional events as needed/appropriate.
• Support territorial events as requested and/or related to worship and creative arts.
• Actively recruit young people and adults (as appropriate) to participate in Music Camp, divisional Conservatory, Star Lake, TAM, DYMA, and Empire Dance.
• Meet regularly with the Program Secretary and, as needed, the Divisional Music Director for strategic planning and information updates.
• Participate as an active member of the Divisional Music Committee, Youth Commission, and Women’s Commission; serve on other divisional committees and commissions as requested.
• Attend divisional calendar meetings; present proposed dates for DYMA and Creative Arts events.
• Work within the established guidelines and budget restrictions relating to purchasing materials and running special events at corps and divisional levels.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university.
• At least 3 to 5 years of experience in the field or a related field.
• Musically inclined; experienced in reading music, singing, and dance.
• Drama experience is required.
• Salvationist in good standing, with faithful attendance and active soldier status at a corps.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple work tasks to meet tight deadlines.
• Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Valid New York State Driver’s License that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
