About the role
The Industry Inspection Bureau is part of the Division of Safety & Health within the NYS Department of Labor. The bureau provides regulatory oversight for amusement devices, public assembly, aerial devices, explosives, pyrotechnics, window cleaners, ski tows and tramways, elevators, glass doors, coin-operated machinery, funhouses, and high-voltage proximity.
This internship is cross-posted for both Albany and Utica locations; only one intern will be selected.
Responsibilities
- Assist in creating a SharePoint site for the Industry Inspection Bureau.
- Organize record keeping for licensing and permitting into a consistent, centralized system.
- Assist in organizing the existing shared folder to migrate necessary files to SharePoint.
- Support the modernization initiative for recordkeeping.
- Create systems to track staff training.
- Assist in developing a centralized training database to ensure consistency statewide.
- Create a centralized list of all explosive magazines and associated fees, as Industry Inspection is responsible for inspecting and certifying magazines used for explosives storage statewide.
Qualifications
- Be a United States citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a New York State resident attending an out-of-state college, university, or graduate program.
- Have completed a minimum of one year as a student at a degree-granting two- or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students), or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted into a graduate degree program.
- Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or the letter-grade equivalent.
