About the Role

Norton Children’s Pediatric Hospital Medicine Division, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, is seeking a Chief of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. This is both a clinical and faculty position, offering the opportunity to grow the specialty through recruitment and to support faculty in developing innovative programs. The chief will supervise research, teaching excellence, and cutting-edge clinical care, collaborating with university and hospital partners to create a strategic plan that garners research funding and philanthropic support.

The selected candidate will help establish pediatric hospital medicine as a regional trusted partner in the care of hospitalized children and a destination of choice for trainees, clinicians, and scientists. The role involves engaging with community stakeholders, fostering a team environment, and building a highly motivated academic physician workforce.

Since integrating in 2020, Norton Children’s Medical Group, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, has recruited over 100 providers, added four new accredited fellowships, expanded outreach throughout Kentucky, and increased National Institutes of Health grants, industry-sponsored grants, and registry and trial drug network funding through Norton Children’s Research Institute.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive and strategic leadership for the program in partnership with the chair of pediatrics.
• Build a culture of engagement, team collaboration, and excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service.
• Develop and implement a research plan integrating clinical, translational, quality, and health services research opportunities.
• Supervise clinical training and education for medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Manage clinical services while carrying an appropriate clinical load within the specialty.
• Recruit additional faculty whose clinical expertise and research interests align with the program’s goals and direction.

• An excellent clinical background with a national or international reputation stemming from academic or research contributions.
• Leadership style based on respect and humility, demonstrating a commitment to servant-leadership principles.
• Dynamic, interpersonal approach focused on team building and motivating others.
• Track record of innovative program-building with a focus on quality improvement.
• Experience leading studies and publishing original scholarship in pediatric hospital medicine.
• Academic credentials that merit appointment at the associate professor or professor level.
• Board certification in pediatric hospital medicine.
