District Safety Specialist (Safety Specialist 2)
Description of Work
This position focuses on supporting district operations by developing safety programs, monitoring field practices, and encouraging accident prevention across maintenance activities. As a District Safety Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
- Safety Guidance: Provide direction to highway crews and garage personnel on correct safety procedures and proper work methods
- Hazard Identification: Observe maintenance operations to recognize risks and recommend preventive actions
- Program Development: Create and support safety initiatives that align with legal standards and department policies
- Field Inspections: Conduct announced and unannounced visits to review equipment, work areas, and safety compliance
- Incident Review: Analyze accident data, prepare follow-up reports, and recommend corrective measures
- Training Support: Coordinate and present safety training programs to meet district requirements
Qualifications Required
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as a Safety Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year of professional experience in conducting safety inspections, safety investigations, or safety training; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
