About the role

Join Southern California Edison (SCE) as a District Planning Specialist and support the regulatory requirements of our electrical distribution system. In this role, you’ll develop and design plans, identify necessary resources, provide cost estimates, and ensure compliance for the construction of distribution facilities. You’ll also interact with a diverse customer base to meet electrical design needs, delivering successful outcomes for both customers and SCE. Your work will contribute to powering our planet, reducing carbon emissions, and creating cleaner air for everyone.

Responsibilities

Develop and prepare construction plans, drawings, and/or circuit maps; design electrical distribution plans, identifying necessary resources and providing cost estimates.
Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, rules, rates, completion dates, and compliance of electrical designs.
Perform calculations relevant to design using the latest SCE standards and/or request studies through Engineering when necessary.
Interact with a diverse customer base to meet electrical design needs, ensuring successful outcomes for customers and SCE on assigned projects.
Participate in small to medium-sized residential, commercial, and industrial projects; determine scope of work, method of service, and construction methods for Distribution overhead and underground facilities.
Manage work orders/projects and maintain a current understanding of industry practices and standards.
Provide technical support for licensing and certification proceedings related to new distribution/transmission lines and substation sites.
Stay up to date on current industry practices, standards, and customer needs.
Identify environmental requirements and coordinate project components with other departments, customers, governmental bodies, and external sources.
Support project drawings and budgets by monitoring internal and external customer timelines and expectations.
Manage multiple projects using project management principles, tools, and techniques under tight time constraints, shifting priorities, and minimal supervision.
Manage project risks, resolve issues, and address escalations impacting project scope, timeline, and budget (work order pricing).
Perform field inspections to gather data for the planning and development review process and verify compliance with approved plans.
Ensure the protection of SCE’s physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly manage private customer data, proprietary information, and other sensitive data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Requirements

One or more years of experience in Electrical Utility Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Design, Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Line Construction, or an Engineering discipline.
Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic understanding of engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
Experience with design tools such as CAD, GIS, or similar systems.
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Experience in customer service, project coordination, or similar support roles.
Training or education applying technical information (engineering, pole loading, drafting, construction, mapping, math, science, IT).
Ability to read or create simple distribution or technical drawings.
Ability to adapt to competing priorities while maintaining accuracy.
Ability to collaborate effectively across teams (clients, peers, management, agencies).
Completion of a Planner Utility Certification Program.
Experience managing customer or stakeholder interactions in a technical, construction, or utility environment, including providing clear information, addressing inquiries, and coordinating solutions.

Schedule

Hybrid work mode: report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on remaining days. Employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.
Option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40 hours/5 days a week.
Position requires up to 30% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
