About the role
Implements state and local student attendance regulations. Facilitates or arranges for comprehensive educational and supportive services to families and their children. Performs residency verifications. Obtains updated community support and maintains a resource list for the district. Plans events and workshops for students and families.
Responsibilities
- Follows up on student referrals from schools due to attendance and determines best course of action to assist the student and their family.
- Works with administrators, counselors, and teachers to help re-orientate and motivate at-risk students.
- Conducts home visits, telephone calls, and school meetings to assist families with community supports.
- Collects attendance data and investigates residency questions.
- Reports to DCF as needed.
- Performs other functions as required by immediate supervisor(s), including additional LEAP home visits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in a child service-related area.
- Two years of experience in education or community outreach.
- Experience working with children and families.
- Knowledge of the Juvenile Court and DCF.
- Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and the ability to provide own transportation.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and the general public.
- Basic knowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications, including email, word processing, accounting databases, and presentations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the field.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to sit and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Noise level is usually very quiet, but may become moderate to loud in a school environment.
Pay
$45,619.00 per year
