Job Summary

The Underground (UG) Distribution Foreman is an experienced and safety-oriented role that leads and supervises underground electric utility crews. This role is critical in ensuring field operations run efficiently, safely, and according to schedule.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices, and Groundmen
  • Coordinate all on-site operations, including crew mobilization, work planning, and equipment setup
  • Ensure safety protocols are communicated, understood, and enforced at all times
  • Manage materials, tools, and equipment required for daily operations
  • Read and interpret site plans, electrical drawings, blueprints, and scopes of work
  • Communicate effectively with Construction Managers, Project Managers, and other stakeholders
  • Oversee adherence to project schedules and assist in planning and budgeting
  • Utilize or be open to learning digital tools and mobile technology for job site efficiency
  • Maintain a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction, productivity, and crew morale

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience leading underground utility distribution crews is required
  • Groundwork experience in utility construction is essential
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and construction practices
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and utility specifications
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • Comfortable collaborating with all levels of the organization
  • Willingness to: Travel long distances on short notice, Work extended hours, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed, Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain, Must pass a background check, drug and & alcohol screening, clearinghouse, and MVR check, Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Must be able to climb poles and structures using proper climbing gear for extended periods
  • Frequent physical activities include standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements and operate hand tools and mechanical equipment
  • Work involves exposure to high-voltage systems, confined spaces, heights, and noisy environments
  • Close visual acuity to perform detailed inspections and tasks
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and in proximity to energized equipment using required PPE
  • Must be physically fit to perform pole-top rescue operations and emergency response activities
