Distribution Engineering Manager

About the role

This position offers a remote work arrangement with the expectation of transitioning to a hybrid or fully in-office role in the future. Preference will be given to candidates who reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the Pittsburgh, PA metropolitan area (Western Pennsylvania) to support local utility clients as business needs require. The selected candidate must be available to attend in-person meetings, site visits, and client engagements throughout the Pennsylvania service territory on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead distribution engineers and provide oversight and QAQC for engineering projects from kickoff through design approval
  • Work directly with clients to maintain Leidos' reputation for high-quality work
  • Execute distribution projects, including utility reliability projects
  • Document processes and ensure compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
  • Perform structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design, field data collection, and adhere to client design standards
  • Develop estimated costs and Bills of Materials

Requirements

  • 5+ years of prior relevant experience in distribution engineering
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience/certifications)
  • Experience with utility reliability projects and QAQC processes
  • Strong customer interaction and process documentation skills
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc, or Distribution Design Studio (DDS)
  • Experience with Work Management Systems like CREWS or utility operations (e.g., FirstEnergy) is a plus
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License is preferred but not required
  • 1+ years of relevant management experience is a plus

Typical Day

  • 10%-30%: Remote client interaction and follow-up
  • 60%-80%: Engineering and development of design packages for customers
  • 10%: Administrative tasks, planning, and customer follow-up

Pay

Pay Range: $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
