We are seeking a Distribution Engineer to support the design and delivery of overhead and underground electric distribution projects.

About the role

This role offers the opportunity to work on utility infrastructure programs, perform engineering analysis, develop construction-ready designs, and collaborate with utility clients, field personnel, and project teams to improve system reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering and construction work packages for overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
  • Review project scopes, customer requirements, and existing utility infrastructure to develop practical design solutions.
  • Perform engineering calculations including:
    • Pole loading analysis
    • Guying design
    • Conductor sag and tension calculations
    • Voltage drop analysis
    • System reliability and outage mitigation studies
  • Support construction activities through engineering consultation, field issue resolution, and post-construction reviews.
  • Conduct field assessments and site visits to collect design data and verify existing conditions.
  • Coordinate with utility clients, property owners, permitting agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Develop designs for complex distribution projects involving underground cable systems, conduit installations, and utility conflicts.
  • Assist with easement acquisition, right-of-way coordination, and permit development.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable utility standards, NESC requirements, and customer specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in electric utility distribution engineering or utility consulting.
  • Experience designing overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with utility design software such as SPIDA-Calc, O-Calc, Pole Foreman, BOUD, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work with limited supervision.
  • Willingness to perform both office and field-based work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NESC standards and utility design practices.
  • Working knowledge of GIS, ESRI, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other CAD platforms.
  • Experience performing structural analysis, protective device coordination, fault current calculations, and cable pulling studies.
  • Familiarity with work management, estimating, and project tracking software.
  • Experience supporting electric utility construction projects and field operations.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.
