About the Role

The Distribution Engineering Designer II (DED II) is the second level of the DED career track, where progression is based on time in grade and performance. This role develops designs for electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground circuits for joint use, lighting, and commercial, industrial, and residential development. The position involves both office and field work, with exposure to inclement weather and environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Produce electric distribution design drawings and Bill of Material (BOM) for moderate-complexity projects.
  • Perform field data collection using standard tools, methods, and processes, including project-specific inspections.
  • Develop technical skills such as cable pulling calculations, cable voltage drop calculations, transformer loading calculations, and pole loading analysis.
  • Familiarize yourself with client construction standards, workflow processes, and customer charging guidelines.
  • Generate permitting and other project-supporting documentation as needed.
  • Understand and mitigate hazards associated with distribution systems to ensure safety during office and field work.
  • Actively promote safety for yourself and others, attend safety meetings, and adhere to hazard identification and mitigation training.
  • Participate in storm restoration as an Assessor and Team Lead Learner, including local or travel assignments.
  • Interact with clients, customers, and construction crews to progress projects.

Requirements

  • Four-year ABET-accredited Engineering degree and two years of relevant experience.
  • Passing the Fundamentals Exam (FE) can substitute for six months of experience; FE is desired.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check are conditions of employment.
  • Motor vehicle checks may be required based on position.
