Distribution Engineer
About the role
Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers & Designers in Rhode Island who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role involves direct client interaction to ensure high-quality work standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers
- Develop work packages for overhead, underground, rural distribution, and make-ready projects using customer GIS and WMS systems like EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget of work assigned
- Conduct functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up
- Analyze work scope, adhere to schedules, and advocate client priorities
- Implement continuous improvement to workflow processes for efficiency and high-quality standards in client design deliverables
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, manage work permits, easements, and ROW applications
- Collect field data for local or regional customer-site visits to assist in developing work packages
- Communicate effectively with local electricians, utility engineers, and town engineers
Requirements
- 2+ years of relevant experience
- Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred); additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
- Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations
- Ability to provide your own reliable transportation for local or regional customer-related travel
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

- Proficiency with design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult

Benefits
Pay Range: $59,150.00 - $106,925.00
