Distribution Engineer

About the role

Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers in the Southern Louisiana area who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is always maintained.

Responsibilities

• Design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers
• Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects, using customer GIS and Work Management systems
• Work with other engineers and design leads on broad client issues including schedule adherence and team quality control; manage scope, schedule, and budget of work assigned
• Review engineering design packages with clients; Perform functional tasks, planning, and/or customer follow-up
• Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high-quality standards in client design deliverables
• Cover conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications
• Be comfortable in both a field and office setting: the role may require some customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages
• Be available for customer-facing activities and/or meetings on an as-needed basis (Job related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)

Requirements

• 2+ years of prior relevant experience is required
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree
• Background in and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
• Some prior knowledge of structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations
• Ability to provide your own reliable transportation, as some customer-related travel may be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills

Qualifications

• Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
• Previous experience with providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC
• Experience with MicroStation - performing Electrical Distribution design
• Experience with work management software and job estimating software
• Experience with CAD tools

Pay

The pay range for this role is $59,150.00 - $106,925.00. Pay and benefits are fundamental to any career decision. Schedule

This position has remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Southern Louisiana (New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette) to be considered, so we can provide support for our local utility customers as needed. The selected candidate(s) will be expected to be available for in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Louisiana on an as-needed basis.
