About the role

Join a team dedicated to providing exceptional customer service in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Distribution Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the Houston Chronicle is delivered accurately and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Audit routes to evaluate service performance and route structure efficiency.
  • Assist Distribution Managers in ensuring compliance with independent contractor agreements and recommending corrective actions for violations.
  • Contact customers with service-related problems and work with distributors and independent contractors to resolve issues.
  • Ensure the distribution center is maintained in a safe, secure, and clean manner.
  • Monitor and verify the accuracy of information submitted by independent contractors.
  • Recruit and manage independent contractors.
  • Verify the accuracy of delivery of all products distributed by contractors within the delivery area.
  • Work with distributors and independent contractors to resolve service issues in a timely and permanent manner.
  • Work with other departments as necessary to ensure smooth operations.
  • Regularly attend departmental meetings to maintain a cohesive unit.
  • Prepare requested reports in a timely and accurate manner.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt and react to change.
  • Some computer skills using Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to learn and use 3rd Party programs such as RouteSmart.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of auto liability insurance.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
  • Standing – 50% of the time.
  • Walking – 50% of the time.
  • Kneeling – 25% of the time.
  • Hearing – 100% of the time.
  • Depth Perception – 100% of the time.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a similar role preferred.

  • Computer proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to learn and use 3rd Party programs (RouteSmart).

Pay

The salary range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00 per hour, depending on experience.
