About the role
Dispatcher (Transit) position based in Nantucket, MA. Starting rate: $30.35/hour.
Key Accountabilities
- Assign work, vehicles and onboard equipment to operators and maintain check-out logs.
- Assign operators in the event of operator absences, increased service volumes in order to minimize service disruptions as a result of traffic, vehicle malfunctions, operator problems and/or emergency situations. Documents service disruptions in the dispatcher daily log.
- Monitors vehicle operations by mode in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate information in Time & Attendance System.
- Verify credentials and fitness for duty upon operator's check-in.
- Ensure Operator uniform compliance.
- Maintain communication with operators, providing information on customers, cancellations, and directional assistance where necessary (On Demand).
- Monitor operators and trip status, adjusts and reassignments as necessary to ensure on time performance (On Demand).
- Provide assistance to operators in the event of emergency or vehicle malfunctions, communicating with operations and safety staff where appropriate.
- Reschedule trips as necessary in the event of vehicle malfunction, traffic, or emergency situations (On Demand).
- Provide assistance to passengers in using the service as well as when inquiring about individual trip status (On Demand).
- Collect any lost and found articles and catalog, attempt to contact appropriate passengers where possible.
- Maintain a safe work area and a focus on safety to reduce the opportunity for injury to self or other employees.
- Establish and monitor on-time performance adherence and tracking (Fixed Route).
- Will assist Operators with informational material as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience
- At least 2 years' radio and/or window dispatch experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Transit environment experience preferred.
- Must have valid Massachusetts driver license, and the ability to obtain a CDL.
- Ability to handle stress, including emergency situations.
- Transportation Dispatching Software knowledge desired.
- Intermediate knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office Suite.
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certification (Provided by the Company).

Work Environment
- Frequently works inside and outside vehicle and might get exposed to extreme, hot and/or cold, weather.
- May sit for over 8 hours per day with frequent use of keyboard, computer monitor, and telephone.
- May twist, squat, bend, push, lift, pull, and climb stairs while performing duties.
- May be exposed to fumes.
- May walk on uneven surfaces, while assisting passengers.
