About the role

The Patient Transporter Dispatcher at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is responsible for dispatching transporters to move patients within the hospital network, ensuring timely distribution of patient tests, and coordinating transporters' breaks. They also assist nursing personnel in moving patients and report any transport equipment malfunctions.

Responsibilities

• Recognizes and prioritizes patient tests and distributes to transporter in a timely manner.
• Captures and coordinates patient tests in scheduled areas and informs departments of any changes.
• Coordinates transporters' breaks and follows the proper chain of command when disciplinary action is needed by staff.
• Affixes and moves patients into a chair or onto a stretcher following standard procedures.
• Fulfills patient identification procedures to ensure transport of the correct patient.
• Communicates with patients during transport in a courteous manner.
• Remains alert to patients' condition during transport and immediately informs appropriate authorities of any unusual incidents or patient concerns.
• Notifies responsible personnel of patients' arrival and delivers a medical chart to the appropriate area within the receiving unit.
• Cleans and sanitizes transport equipment utilizing appropriate disinfecting materials after each patient's use.
• Reports and identifies any suspected transport equipment malfunction for needed repairs to supervisor to ensure patient safety.
• Returns transport equipment to the proper area to ensure fire and safety regulations.
• Responds to various requests for wheelchairs and stretchers by locating equipment and delivering it to the requesting unit.
• Monitors 02 Flow Meters to ensure adequate 02 flow during patient transport.
• Attends all classes and in-service required by department policies.
• Follows all break and lunch schedules and returns in a timely fashion.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Hospital Patient Transport experience preferred.
• Prior Dispatch experience preferred.

Skills

• Ability to identify patient's educational needs.
• Knowledge of lateral lifting techniques.
