About the role
The Disability Assistant at TELUS Health supports the absence management program by communicating with claimants and employees regarding leave of absence applications, short-term disability reporting, and claim status inquiries. This role involves processing documents, ensuring claimant documentation is complete, and providing updates on claim statuses.
Responsibilities
- Answer incoming calls from claimants and employees to assist with leave of absence applications, short-term disability reporting, and claim status inquiries.
- Process incoming documents and review FMLA and STD documents to determine if all necessary information has been provided for claim assignment and processing.
- Inform claimants of required documentation, timelines, and claim statuses via phone, written correspondence, and claims system.
- Update claim notes with relevant claim and certification information.
- Aid Case Managers and Nurse Consultants as needed.
- Follow all processes outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and/or as detailed in training/meetings.
- Perform other projects and tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- 2+ years of customer-facing experience (call center, retail, or similar fast-paced customer service roles).
- High School Diploma.
- Strong interpersonal and helping skills, including assessment and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent computer skills, particularly proficiency in working online in a paperless environment.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet home workspace.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in Human Resources, Disability Management, or FMLA Administration (a plus).
- Familiarity with absence management systems.
- Associate’s Degree (a plus).
