Disabilities & Mental Health Coordinator

About the role

Works within the Disabilities and Mental Health team in a collaborative approach, serving as the content area expert to assist the Disabilities and Mental Health Manager and the Education and Child Development Director in planning, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring services for children with special needs and/or behavioral concerns. Responsibilities align with Head Start Performance Standards, agency policies and procedures, and the agency's school readiness plan.

Coordinates functional assessments of behavior (FBA) and develops Behavior Intervention Plans to address students' inappropriate behaviors and help children become more academically successful. Provides classroom and agency-wide behavior management strategies. Uses independent judgment to support overall school readiness for all Head Start children as needed.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the content area expert for disabilities and mental health within a collaborative team.
• Assist in planning, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring services for children with special needs or behavioral concerns.
• Coordinate functional assessments of behavior (FBA) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Provide behavior management strategies for classrooms and the agency as a whole.
• Support overall school readiness for all Head Start children.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university with a major in Behavioral Sciences, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, or a closely related field as determined by the agency.
• Experience working with children, preferably 3–5 years of age.

Desired Qualifications

• Master's degree in one of the areas listed above.
• Hold a special education license or endorsement, or one of the following professional licenses: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA).
• Prior Head Start experience.
• Proficiency in ChildPlus.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Schedule

• 234 working days per year with 12 paid holidays.
• Typical workweek: Monday–Friday, minimum 40 hours per week.
• Weekends off.
