About the role
The Director, Water Quality & Environmental Compliance oversees Illinois operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate standards. Key responsibilities include developing state water quality and environmental monitoring programs, managing laboratory operations, and providing technical assistance.
Responsibilities
- Develop state water quality and environmental monitoring program
- Ensure company compliance with regulatory and corporate standards
- Provide technical advice and assistance with business development opportunities
- Investigate new acquisitions and integrate into operations
- Interface with Corporate Environmental Management on reporting and coordination of the environmental function
- Provide technical assistance to the state functional units on Water Quality and Environmental issues
- Direct laboratories and other water quality and environmental monitoring and control programs
- Provide technical advice and assistance with business development opportunities
- Investigate new acquisitions and integrate into operations
- Serve as an expert witness in legal/ratemaking proceedings
- Identify and develop opportunities to enhance the company’s brand through the development of innovative and sustainable environmental solutions
- Identify and develop reference projects for social responsibility, stewardship, and related natural resource programs
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience managing people and leading state-wide projects
- Experience in utility operations, environmental management of water resources and/or treatment or related technology or process development
- 15+ years’ experience in water distribution systems or water utility operations; other comparable work experience may be considered
Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License
- Water or Wastewater Distribution License preferred

- Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations
- Understanding of current environmental legislation related to water system operations
- Strong to excellent working knowledge of all Federal, State, and local requirements for Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention regulations
- Thorough knowledge of water quality and environmental regulations
- Strong to excellent working knowledge of all Federal, State, and local requirements for Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention regulations
- Knowledge of industry trade organizations

Pay
$128,540.00 - $204,860.00 annually
