About the role
We are seeking a Trademark Attorney to join our in-house legal team, supporting the global trademark portfolio for our pharmaceutical products and corporate brands.
Responsibilities
- Manage the global trademark portfolio (prosecution, maintenance, renewals, and enforcement) for prescription product brands, corporate names, and pipeline candidates
- Supervise outside counsel in preparing and prosecuting global trademark applications relating to commercial and patient/educational activities
- Conduct and oversee trademark clearance searches and provide advice to internal clients on third-party trademarks and freedom-to-operate risk
- Support legal clearance for secondary nomenclature needs such as INNs, logo designs, foreign language transliterations, and 4-letter biologic suffixes for new product compounds, line extensions, in-licensed and co-marketed drugs, devices, digital apps, and patient support programs
- Advises commercial, marketing, and branding teams on trademark selection, usage guidelines, and brand protection strategy across all channels (packaging, promotional materials, digital/social media)
- Draft and negotiate trademark-related agreements, including licensing, coexistence, consent, and settlement agreements
- Manage domestic and international trademark filings and prosecution through outside counsel networks; oversee budgets and vendor relationships
- Manage enforcement actions against third parties seeking to misappropriate company names, products, websites, and internet domain names, including UDRP proceedings; monitor the marketplace and online channels for infringement, counterfeiting, and grey-market issues; handle opposition/cancellation proceedings before the USPTO/TTAB and foreign trademark offices
- Support counterfeiting mitigation by registering trademarks with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and equivalent global agencies, and partner with Corporate Security, Communications, Commercial, and Digital teams to address cybersquatting and online brand misuse
- Coverage with in-house litigation colleagues on trademark infringement, unfair competition, and related disputes in federal and state court, including case strategy, discovery support, and expert coordination
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing (state bar as applicable)
- 5 plus years of trademark law experience, with a mix of law firm and/or in-house experience preferred
- Substantive experience with trademark prosecution, portfolio management, and enforcement
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences, or healthcare industry strongly preferred; familiarity with FDA proprietary name review process a plus
- Experience with international trademark filing strategy and coordination with foreign counsel
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills, including licensing and coexistence agreements

$205,000.00 - $341,600.00 annually
