About the role

As a Director of Technical Program Management (TPM) in Capital One’s Card Tech+ organization, you will lead programs that deliver on critical business goals and build large scale products & platforms. You will work to support technical testing scoping and execution, and also work to expand the TPM discipline within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage technical programs, ensuring successful integration with partners like Discover.
  • Pave the way for expanding the TPM discipline within the team.
  • Contribute to growing the reach and influence of the TPM at Capital One.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Solve problems quantitatively and implement holistic solutions.
  • Build and develop a team of TPMs, while establishing the foundations for the TPM practice.
  • Explain the technically complex to others and make well-informed decisions across multiple departments.
  • Drive execution, follow-through, accountability, and results.
  • Collaborate across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to achieve goals.
  • Show emotional intelligence, listen well, and empathize with teams and partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 7 years of experience managing technical programs
  • Experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing
  • Experience building distributed systems & highly available services using cloud computing services / architecture, preferably using AWS
  • Experience building highly scalable mobile products & platforms
  • Experience with Agile delivery
  • Experience delivering large and complex programs, owning the business or technical vision, collaborating with large cross-functional teams, securing commitments on deliverables, and unblocking teams to achieve business impact
  • Experience in building systems & solutions within a highly regulated environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering)
  • MBA or Master’s Degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering) or equivalent experience

  • Strong technical background (building highly scalable platforms, products, or services)
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and influencing skills
  • Quantitative approach to problem-solving and collaborative implementation of holistic solutions
  • Experience as a TPM leader to grow and develop a team of TPMs
  • Ability to simplify the technically complex and drive well-educated decisions across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives
  • Deep focus on execution, follow-through, accountability, and results
  • Exceptional cross-team collaboration
  • Highly tuned emotional intelligence, good listener, and deep-seated empathy for teams and partners

Pay

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

  • Chicago, IL: $209,500 - $239,100 for Director, Technical Program Management
