Director, Technical Program Management

About the role

BitGo is a digital‑asset infrastructure company delivering custody, wallets, staking, trading, financing, stablecoins, and settlement services from regulated cold storage. The role is full‑time onsite at the New York City office (40 Wall St) to support collaborative team dynamics and innovative problem‑solving.

This position exists because BitGo’s products are the foundation of the crypto industry globally. While product owners manage individual workstreams, the connective tissue—delivery operating rhythm, cross‑team dependencies, regulatory submission pipelines, and audit‑driven remediation programs—spans product, engineering, compliance, legal, and finance. You will be the first Technical Program Manager (TPM) for R&D, building the TPM function from scratch and ensuring execution risk is managed at a public‑company level.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and predictable delivery of product across the portfolio, owning delivery integrity, dates, cross‑team and cross‑entity programs (e.g., acquisition integrations, legal‑entity restructurings, partner and vendor migrations), and early escalation of plan deviations.
  • Build trust between product and regulatory, compliance, legal, finance, and audit partners; run programs where product delivery and control exposure intersect, such as new‑product regulatory review pipelines with fixed examiner deadlines and remediation of audit findings that require product builds.
  • Maintain a single source of truth for resource allocation, program timelines, and risk; surface contradictions (e.g., unstaffed critical‑path dependencies, duplicate ownership, hidden cross‑team dependencies) before they cause quarter‑end misses.
  • Run the product organization’s execution‑review cadence, providing honest initiative status, launch readiness for commercial teams, and a blocker‑escalation path with service‑level agreements.
  • Start as the first TPM for R&D, hands‑on on the highest‑exposure programs, and within a year build out the TPM function by hiring 1–2 additional TPMs as needed.
  • Set the standard for program management: outcome‑accountable, technically fluent, and light‑touch on teams that are already delivering.

Success Metrics (First Two Quarters)

  • Every regulated‑delivery program has a dated plan reconciled against its external deadline, with gaps escalated in writing.
  • No compliance commitment is tracked in an unowned spreadsheet.
  • Committed goals and staffing are fully reconciled; zero commitments have unstaffed critical‑path dependencies without explicit leadership acceptance.
  • At least one integration or entity program is run end‑to‑end through the new operating model.
  • Product leads report a reduction in coordination overhead.
  • If the TPM function is perceived as a reporting tax rather than a value‑adding capability, the function is considered failed.

Partner Collaboration

  • Product managers – you take the cross‑team coordination load off their plate and provide escalation muscle for blockers.
  • Engineering leadership – you provide program‑level sequencing and a single dependency view, partnering rather than exercising positional authority.
  • Compliance, legal, and risk teams – you build delivery pipelines around regulatory judgment, tracking submission deadlines and remediation plans.
  • Commercial leadership – you supply launch dates that can be sold and a clear intake path for deal‑driven commitments.
  • Finance and audit – you keep control‑remediation milestones honest against the audit calendar, escalating slippage promptly.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in technical program management, with at least 3 years leading TPM teams or functions (ideally founding one).
  • Delivery leadership experience in a regulated financial environment (examiner deadlines, audit findings, SOX‑adjacent controls, or material‑weakness remediation).
  • Technical credibility with platform engineering: able to read architecture discussions, pressure‑test estimates, and hold your own in sequencing conversations with senior engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one of: M&A integration, legal‑entity restructuring, or large multi‑party partner migrations.
  • Proven ability to operate through influence in organizations where authority is split across reporting lines.
  • Writing‑first operator: default artifacts are documents and dependency maps rather than status meetings.
  • Crypto/digital‑asset domain experience is a plus, but regulated‑fintech delivery experience is essential.

Potential Pitfalls

  • Treating the role as a process‑rollout position; the organization values fast, delivered programs over ceremony.
  • Relying on positional authority; you must succeed by influencing across product and engineering lines that do not report to you.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, bonus, and stock options.
  • 100% company‑paid health insurance for employee, partner, and dependents.
  • Up to 4% 401(k) company match.
  • Paid parental leave and paid vacation.
  • Free custom lunches, dinners, and snacks.
  • Computer equipment and workplace furniture tailored to your needs.
  • Great colleagues and an inspiring startup environment.

Compensation

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending upon leveling, the base salary for this role averages between $200,000 – $230,000 USD. Equity, an annual performance bonus, and the benefits listed above are also part of the total compensation package.
