Director, Tax Technology
Job Description
The Director, Tax Technology will serve as a strategic leader within the global Finance & Tax Transformation organization, responsible for defining and advancing the long-term vision for technology-enabled tax operations across AbbVie. This role is accountable for driving transformation by leveraging advanced technologies including AI, automation, and data analytics to modernize tax processes, enhance decision-making, and improve compliance and reporting outcomes. This leader will partner closely with senior Tax, Finance, and BTS (Business Technology Systems) stakeholders to identify scalable, future-ready solutions that optimize global direct and indirect tax processes. The role will champion the adoption of AI-enabled capabilities to unlock efficiencies, generate insights, and proactively manage risk across the tax function. This role will translate strategic priorities into executable roadmaps, lead cross-functional initiatives, and ensure alignment with broader Finance Transformation objectives.
Qualifications
- B.A./B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Computer Sciences.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in tax, finance transformation, or tax technology leadership roles within a publicly traded corporation and/or public accounting firm.
- Deep expertise in tax processes, including ASC 740, compliance, planning, and global reporting requirements.
- Proven experience leading large-scale transformation initiatives, including technology implementations and process reengineering.
- Strong understanding of ERP systems, tax technology platforms, and data architecture.
- Demonstrated experience driving AI, automation, or digital innovation initiatives within finance or tax functions.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at executive levels.
- Strategic mindset with a track record of translating vision into measurable outcomes.
- Able to lead through complexity, manage competing priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and changing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with both tax and non-tax audiences.
