Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance - Ensure the timely preparation, review, and filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Maintain compliance with all US tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Manage and improve the tax compliance process, identifying areas for continuous improvement and efficiency.
Tax Planning and Strategy
- Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company’s tax position and apply strategies to add value allowing the tax function to operate as a profit center.
- Advise on the tax implications of business operations, transactions, and acquisitions.
- Provide guidance on potential tax risks and opportunities
Tax Reporting
- Oversee tax provision processes for financial reporting under IFRS.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax assets, liabilities, and related disclosures.
- Collaborate with finance teams to ensure accurate tax reporting in financial statements
Audit Management
- Manage tax audits and inquiries from federal and state tax authorities.
- Represent the company in discussions with tax authorities, including preparing responses to audits.
- Ensure proper documentation and defense of tax positions taken
Team Leadership
- Oversee the performance and development of one direct report (Manager, US Tax).
- Lead, mentor, and develop the US tax team, ensuring high performance.
- Foster a collaborative working environment between the tax department and other departments and business units (finance, legal, etc.).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in tax processes and controls
Tax Research and Analysis
- Stay current with changes in tax legislation and regulatory developments.
- Conduct tax research and analysis to assess the impact of changes on the company.
- Provide internal stakeholders with updates on tax issues and strategies
Mergers & Acquisitions
- Support due diligence and integration activities for mergers, acquisitions, and other business transactions.
- Advisory on tax-efficient structuring of transactions
Qualifications
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Professional Designation, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in taxation considered an asset.
Pay
The expected compensation range for this position is $156,120 - $249,708. This range includes base pay and target variable pay. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We also consider internal equity to ensure fair and consistent pay practices.
