Business Overview
New York Life Real Estate Investors (NYL REI) is the real estate investment platform within New York Life Investment Management. The Northeast Regional Office is responsible for commercial mortgage origination and portfolio management efforts for the Northeast U.S. Major markets from Northern, VA through New England. Over the past five years, the Northeastern Regional Office has originated nearly $8 billion of fixed and floating rate mortgages on a variety of properties, working with top tier owners, developers, investment advisors, pension funds, private equity firms, and mortgage brokers.
Responsibilities
- Proactively source and originate commercial mortgage loan opportunities through developers, institutional owners and investors, and mortgage broker relationships.
- Play a key role throughout the entire loan origination lifecycle, including business development, marketing, underwriting, due diligence, loan structuring and negotiation, application review, and closing.
- Support the ongoing monitoring and management of the existing regional mortgage portfolio.
- Cultivate long-term relationships with borrowers, brokers, and industry partners.
- Regular travel is required to support business development efforts and portfolio management activities.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of Eastern U.S. real estate markets and commercial properties including, but not limited to, industrial, retail, multi-family, and office.
- Strong preference for track record in the hotel space.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and technical skills, including the ability to analyze, underwrite and forecast property cash flows and valuations using Argus and Excel software.
- Ability to size and price loans with proper structural features and negotiate term sheets and loan commitments.
- Successful track record and experience in the commercial mortgage loan origination, due diligence, and loan closing/negotiation processes.
- Team player who is organized, efficient, proactive, conscientious and assumes accountability and responsibility for specific performance and work product.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship-building skills, and marketing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Creative problem-solver with strong research skills.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret real estate market data/trends and financial information.
- Ability to independently and proactively interact with, and gather data from borrowers, brokers, property managers, appraisers, attorneys, and other real estate professionals.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively respond to changes in workflow, priorities, and workload in a team environment.
- Construction lending and/or structured lending experience a plus.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Accounting, or related disciplines.
- 10 to 15+ years of experience as a commercial mortgage underwriter/originator preferably with a major financial institution or mortgage brokerage company.
- Proven track record in commercial mortgage loan originations, a strong work ethic and the ability to work well in a team setting.
- An industry recognized designation such as CCIM or CFA, or course work toward either of these designations is a plus.
Pay
Salary Range: $170,000-$260,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
